Coosa River Adventures
Whether your idea of fun on the river is a leisurely float or a white-knuckle thrill ride, you can find both and all levels in between at Coosa River Adventures. Located in downtown Wetumpka, just a short drive from downtown Montgomery, the staff here will help you fulfill your river ambitions on Class II and III waters.
Serving river enthusiasts since 1995, Coosa River Adventures will help you select the right equipment for your skill level and experience. They offer canoes, but make sure that renters understand the pros and cons. For example, canoes are very stable and can hold a lot of cargo, however, they can fill with water and can get stuck against rocks or logs.
For those renting kayaks, the staff will explain the difference in sit inside versus sit-on types. The sit-on top style of kayak is easier to paddle and ideal for novices or those looking for a more laid-back experience. The sit inside recreational style allows you to carry more gear in the cockpit. The whitewater kayaks are shorter in length with little to no storage space. Coosa River Adventures does not rent the whitewater style, but they do sell them. They also rent stand up paddleboards for those looking for that calm water option.
With your choice of kayak or canoe squared away, you can decide which trip is right for you. Rentals can include transportation to a launch site, a set schedule and life jackets. You can also opt for the Tote ‘n’ Float program where you tote the kayak or canoe to the water of your choosing, then return it at the designated time. Or go for a longer trip with their exciting overnight trip on the Tallapoosa River. The 51-mile outing has a mix of flat and swift water. For this option, bring your camping gear and plan to spend the night on a sandbar.
