The first step to a great self-guided tour in Montgomery is the one you take in the door of the Experience Montgomery Visitor Center, located at 1 Court Square. Here our friendly staff will help you craft your ideal itinerary for your visit. Enjoy a self-guided experience where you set the pace and linger to absorb and appreciate.

Perhaps you want to make this a museum trip. We’ve got plenty to choose from, each with a unique story to tell. Start with art when you visit the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts. The museum’s collection focuses mainly on American artists from the 18th, 19th, 20th, and into the early 21st century. When the weather calls you outdoors, include a stroll around the John and Joyce Caddell Sculpture Garden. It’s a perfect spot for calm reflection.

Lessons of injustice, defiance and the work that is still needed are waiting for you at the Rosa Parks Museum which honored the life of the civil rights icon. At the EJI Legacy Sites, be prepare to come face to face with the haunting and shameful truths of man’s inhumanity to his fellow man. Be sure to set aside plenty of time to immerse yourself in the experiences of both locations as you walk through at your own pace.

Additional museum self-guided tours are available at the Museum of Alabama where each step is a step back in time to learn more about our state’s history. Old Alabama Town lends itself to a fun spring or fall visit, when the weather is perfect for lingering to appreciate the representation of 19th-century life in Montgomery. Consider renting a bike in the downtown area to cover more ground while taking in the sites. Plot a course to visit the area’s many historical markers.
